How is Gastritis diagnosed?
Gastritis may be diagnosed through a review of symptoms, testing for H. pylori infection, blood work, or an upper endoscopy. During an endoscopy, a thin camera is passed through the mouth into the stomach to evaluate the stomach lining and obtain biopsies if needed.
When should I see a gastroenterologist for Gastritis?
You should see a gastroenterologist if you have persistent upper abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, loss of appetite, vomiting, unexplained weight loss, or symptoms that do not improve with treatment. Evaluation may include testing for H. pylori infection or an upper endoscopy.

What are the treatments for Gastritis?
Treatment is based on the underlying cause, options include antacids, antibiotics, cessation of smoking, avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, changes in diet and avoiding foods that trigger symptoms.

What are some complications of Gastritis?
Complications for gastritis thankfully are not common. If ignored for a long period of time it can lead to anemia, ulcers and gastric lymphomas.

If you have symptoms of gastritis, including stomach pain, bloating, nausea, or indigestion, schedule an appointment with Dr. David Tenembaum or Dr. Aviles.
